Ok so no real fire to report but I did have a mishap with Grams microvave and burnt popcorn last night. Lets just say it was an exciting night :)
First, I put the popcorn in the mircowave. Second, I pushed popcorn on the mircowave and nothing happened. Genuis that I am I decide to push popcorn and start. After I heard poping sounds I decided to leave the kitchen..that was a big NO and never do that again. I left the kitchen for a few seconds and all of a sudden M and Gram were saying "Done Poping". I didn't think anything at fist because I was like okay its done poping. I walk slowly into the kitchen and I open the mircowave and black smoke is coming out of the mircowave. Then all of the sudden the fire alarms are going off and they are really loud and noisy. I thought ours were bad but Grams is worse. My Mom and Gram sprang into action with towels and with trying to find a cell phone. I opened the door for fresh air and getting rid of some black smoke. After we found the cell phone we had already called S.S a maintnice guy at swiss village who was in church at the time(we wouldn't know that until 9pm) and swiss village to tell them what has happened. Two nurses came from swiss village and tried shutting the alarms off but nothing. After 20 minutes of still hearing the alarms another guy from maintnice came and thankfully he shut them off. Yes, it did still smell like burnt popcorn. My Mom had made another thing of popcorn when the nurses were still there. I did not go towards the mircowave toward the end of the night.
Today during lunchtime I was talk of swiss village. If you ever want burnt popcorn, you know who to call.

What a night! Such a slow response to our alarm at SV. We were just minutes short of the fire trucks coming thanks to the nurses who took Gma's call. Maintenance and popping are the two words that need correcting :) Quite a story and quite an awful smell! Love you, MomK
Thank goodness for a nice warm day today and I could leave the door open and leave some fresh air in. There is not much smell from the smoke anymore. Lesson learned: stay close to the microwave when popping corn!
Love, GmaH
We often have scorched microwave popcorn--when a few kernels hang together and smoke; they never listened to their mother about the health hazard. Fortunately, we haven't had as big of a problem as you did, and we are really thankful that your problem wasn't any bigger.
BTW were you using amish popcorn?
Just keep your eye on the microwave, and the stove, and the iron, and the toaster, and all kinds of things that get hot! I have to remember that myself!
love you kiddo, auntS
